Bye Debt

2016 Wrap Up

It’s been one year since I decided to steer my family into taking the first step of our debt free journey. January 4th, 2016 I was sitting in my dining room, broke, afraid, and defeated. I decided “Virginia – you did not spend the last four years struggling in college to be in this situation. You got yourself here, now you’re gonna get yourself out.” So, I did what any neurotic 23-year-old would do: I spent the next four hours planning and plotting how I was going to change my life. I devised a step-by-step plan of attack, and started working on it that day. Now, 377 days later we have paid more than HALF our debt. While everyone else is crying foul over 2016, I’m rejoicing in what was a productive, life-changing year.

Here’s what we started out with: $50,902.25
Here’s what we paid off in 2016: $26,443.00
Here’s what we’ve got left to go: $24,459.25

What’s next? Um…. WE’RE PAYING OFF THE REST OF OUR DEBT THIS YEAR! That’s right, 2017 is the year we become DEBT FREE! I am so excited for that moment, but as of right now I’m not sure when that’s going to happen. Tax season is on it’s way and since we bought a house this year, we’re expecting a large lump sum!
